About.com has an annual action movie preview. With pictures like The Book of Eli, Legion and From Paris With Love already in theaters I hope it's still not too late in the year to see what else to expect from superheroe-fighting-shoot-em-up-car-chasing-ass-kicking movies of 2010.
By Rebecca Murray, About.com Guide
2010 won't have Spider-Man or Batman (we do get Christopher Nolan's Inception) movies, but Iron Man returns, Robin Hood's back to steal from the rich, and the long, long, long-awaited sequel to Tron finally arrives. 2010 also finds a new batch of superhero types heading to theaters in Jonah Hex and Kick-Ass. Plus, Tom Cruise, Angelina Jolie, Sam Worthington, and John Travolta have action films ready to launch in '10.
Check out this list of action movies hitting theaters throughout 2010, listed in order of release, to see if there's something that might persuade you to take action and buy a ticket.

Starring: Denzel Washington, Mila Kunis and Gary Oldman
What's It About? Denzel Washington takes on all comers who are brave enough to try and wrestle a now one-of-a-kind book out of his hands in this post-apocalyptic thriller from the filmmaking Hughes brothers. Washington plays a very wise man who tries to peacefully make his way across the desolate landscape to deliver the book to someone in the West. He's not sure who or what waits for him at the end of his journey, but he knows it's absolutely imperative he make the trip in order to help humanity recover.

2. 'Legion'
What's It About?: Paul Bettany stars as the Archangel Michael who comes to Earth to save humanity in this thriller from first-time feature film writer/director Scott Stewart. It seems God is very, very angry with us humans and is ready to wipe the slate clean and start over. But, thankfully, Michael's on our side. He must protect a group trapped in a diner which includes a pregnant woman who holds the key to our survival.
In Theaters: January 22, 2010

What's It About? Nicolas Cage has a few films hitting theaters in 2010, including this one, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, and Kick-Ass. They're all action movies, but fortunately they're spread out so Cage isn't competing against himself as an action star.
Cage plays a medieval knight who has to take a woman a powerful cardinal's convinced is a witch [as in 'season of the'...] to a remote abbey to be destroyed. But, is she a simply a young woman, a witch, or something else altogether?

3. 'From Paris with Love'
© Lionsgate Films
Starring: John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys Meyers
What's It About? Travolta and Rhys Meyers shoot up Paris while tracking terrorists in this shoot-em-up, take-no-prisoners drama. Rhys Meyers plays a desk jockey who gets his wish to be involved where the real action is. But as the saying goes, be careful what you wish for. His partner (Travolta) turns out to be a real live wire who likes to shoot first, ask questions later.
In Theaters: February 5, 2010

4. 'Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief'
© 20th Century Fox
Starring: Logan Lerman, Brandon T Jackson, and Uma Thurman
What's It About: I've never read the book this film is based on, but if the heated discussion over the film's cast is any indication, the fans of Percy Jackson are waiting anxiously for this big screen adaptation. Set in the modern world, the story follows the son of Poseidon as he and his buddies try to track down the person who stole Zeus' lightning bolt.

Starring: Benicio Del Toro, Emily Blunt, and Anthony Hopkins
What's It About? Delays, reshoots, and other problems have made a lot of people nervous about this latest take on the classic tale of a man who changes into a wolf when the moon is full. But the trailer's absolutely gorgeous, and you couldn't ask for a better cast. Del Toro takes on the lead role of Lawrence Talbot in this action thriller about love, betrayal, ancient curses, and creatures who come out only at night.

What's It About? This remake of George A Romero's classic horror film is set in a small town that's gone, well, crazy. All the inhabitants of the normally happy little town have lost their minds. As the random acts of violence escalate, the sheriff (Olyphant) has to figure out what's happening to all the families in his town before there's no one left for him to protect.

7. 'Alice in Wonderland'

Starring: Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska and Anne Hathaway
What's It About? With Tim Burton in charge, you just know this Alice in Wonderland is going to be a twisted, irresistible fantasy action thriller that's bound to make quite an impression on audiences. Going down the rabbit hole with Burton and his frequent collaborator Johnny Depp (as The Mad Hatter), is a trip I can't wait to take.
In our exclusive interview, Burton says this colorful Alice will have a little something for everyone. "We're not doing anything that's not in the books at all," said Burton. "We're not trying to overdo something because basically I think it's for kids, adults, anybody."

8. 'Green Zone'
© Universal Pictures
Starring: Matt Damon, Greg Kinnear and Jason Isaacs
What's It About? Well, it's not a Bourne movie but it is loaded with action and it does star Matt Damon, and Bourne Supremacy and Bourne Ultimatum director Paul Greengrass helmed it. Damon and Greengrass may not get back together for Bourne 4, but at least we have Green Zone to tide us over until the timing - and the script - is right on another Bourne.
In this action-centric film, Damon plays an Army officer whose team has to ferret out who's telling them the truth while trying to locate dangerous weapons in the Iraq desert.

9. 'The Bounty Hunter'
© Columbia Pictures
Starring: Gerard Butler and Jennifer Aniston
What's It About? If you pay attention to gossip sites, then probably all you know about The Bounty Hunter is that Butler and Aniston supposedly dated during production. The tabloids always pair up Aniston and Butler with whoever they're working opposite, and so it wasn't unexpected that the two would be linked romantically. Is it true? Who knows, and more importantly, who cares?
Back to the film, it's an action comedy in which Butler's a bounty hunter (hence the film's title) and his ex-wife, Aniston, is his target.
